Whenever anyone constructs a house, he wants it to last for years to come. However, for this, one needs to pay attention to two things: first, high-quality materials such as bricks, cement, steel, sand, and second, an experienced mason who can perform the task. If both of these things are in place, the life of the house will be longer. Today, we will talk about the quality of bricks.

When you go to buy bricks for your house, there are 3-4 qualities of bricks available in the market. The first grade brick  is the best one. It has the right shape, size, and is properly baked. Its compressive strength is up to 105 kilograms per square centimetre. To check the quality of bricks, when you knock two bricks together, there should be a metallic sound, and the brick should not break. The cost of these bricks is about 6.5 to 8 rupees.

The second-grade brick is slightly less baked than the first-grade brick. This means it is slightly less stronger than the first-grade brick. It is also called red box brick, naram avval brick, or doyam bricks. It costs around 5 to 7 rupees. Nowadays, most houses are built on beams and columns. This reduces the load on the wall. In such cases, you can use red box bricks.

The third quality bricks  are called yellow bricks. These are not well baked. These are not suitable for building a house because of lack of strength. However, they can be used for temporary or low-grade work.

The fourth type of bricks are called “chatka” bricks. Due to excessive baking, their shape becomes uneven and they turn black. Using these bricks in building a house can result in cracks on the walls. construction may become more complicated. However, such bricks are suitable for foundation related work and flooring. Such bricks  are strong and inexpensive.

If you are building a house with red clay bricks, use only the first grade or red box bricks. To check the quality of bricks, you can drop them from a height of 1.5 meters on the ground. If bricks don’t break, they are suitable for construction.  Apart from red bricks, you can also use fly ash bricks or AAC blocks in your house.  Let’s learn more about them.

Fly ash bricks
Fly ash bricks are made of fly ash, lime, gypsum, and cement. Its compressive strength is 75 to 100 kilograms per square centimeter. It has a uniform size. Compared to red bricks, it has less  mortar. Due to its good finishing, it can be used without putting plaster on the wall, just the work of putty and paint is enough. The price ranges from 4 to 6 rupees. It is lighter in weight than red bricks. It has a weight of 2.6 kilograms, while red bricks weigh around 3 kilograms. It is environmentally friendly because its primary raw material, fly ash, is a waste product from thermal power plants.

AAC blocks
AAC, which stands for Autoclaved Aerated Concrete block is lighter in weight than red bricks and fly ash bricks. It also has a larger size. AAC blocks are less expensive than red and fly ash bricks when used for building walls. These also require less cement in the mortar. AAC blocks are mainly used in tall buildings because these reduce the dead load of the building.

So, you have seen how bricks make your home stronger. A home is not something that can be repeatedly deconstructed and rebuilt. Therefore, you should check the quality of every item used in home construction so that there are no problems later on.
