Health insurance is almost indispensable nowadays. After the pandemic experts advise that everybody should have a comprehensive health insurance policy that should be reviewed once a year. With galloping cost of medical treatment and hospital expenses, one must have sufficient health insurance coverage to ensure one gets adequate medical care. Therefore, reviewing health insurance each year is important. According to experts, one should review his/her policy preferably, two-three months before they are due for renewal.

Experts often say that with one year passing requirements change and so it is a wise decision to review the health insurance and take decisions a little ahead of the due date. The possible scenarios can be increasing the sum insured, addition of a member, availing any add-on facility etc. Money9 gives you nine important factors which you must evaluate again while reviewing the health policy.

Limit change

Every year one should review the sum insured of the health insurance. With gradually increasing cost of healthcare one should have an adequate amount which could be changed during renewal of the policy.

Cost of critical medical procedures like treatment of heart, cancer, fractures, etc. change every year.

Change in city

The cost of medical treatment varies from one city to another. So, if you have relocated to another city then review your policy first.

Change in employment

Check the difference in health insurance provided by your new employer. Make sure you and your family have adequate personal health insurance. Don’t forget to have all the details, including the insurance card.

Family history

Past or recent ailments in your family may indicate a need for securing higher cover. It might be prudent to take Covid-related shield irrespective of whether any of your family member had been suffering from the infection.

Critical illness covers

Critical illnesses of the heart and cancer can cause extra burden. Having a benefit-based policy that pays on diagnosis is always better.

No claim bonus

Insurance companies reward you for not filing a claim in consecutive three policy years. Some companies give you free health checkup and other facilities. You should check those things once again.

Additional coverage

You can opt for any add-on coverage like cataract operation, cancer treatment or no deduction etc. It is advisable to opt for these riders while renewing the insurance policy.

Member addition

If you have a baby in the past one year, then you have to include him/her in the policy along with some other members of your family.

Cashless network

At the time of need, especially in hospitalisations that incur a high medical cost, experts say the company must have a strong cashless network so that the family is relieved of the financial stress during those difficult times. You also check the nearest network hospitals around you.
