Keep away Covid-19 and cyber virus, use NFC debit cards: SBI

In this digital age phishing and spoofing are two most common words which we encounter every day. The country’s largest bank State Bank of India is not only advising its customers to stay awake to the problem but also introducing products and features that offer a shield against such cyberattacks.

SBI has recently launched NFC or Near Field Communication debit card for its customers which is a standard plastic card with a chip super scribe on it along with advanced NFC technology with enhanced security features.

Customer first

Contactless transaction is one of the features of the NFC -enabled cards. At a time when the country is passing through the pandemic and distancing is the need of the hour this card intends to make customers secure from any touch that might become troublesome.

Moreover, this card allows the bank’s customers to set a limit of Rs 2,000 per transaction through this remote method.

Enable, disable

In order to enable and disable NFC, one has to follow a few simple steps.

One can visit SBI e-services corner. A customer can also enable and disable from the options ATM Card Limit/ Channel/ Usage Change through internet banking.

Besides, cash transaction limit can be set subject to the maximum limit of Rs 10,000 daily and Rs 2,000 per transaction.

What is NFC card

NFC is a method of wirelessly transmitting data using radio waves. Tap to Pay uses NFC to wirelessly transmit payment data to payment terminals with NFC readers that have been activated for use.

NFC is a facility available in select SBI debit cards which can be enabled or disabled via internet banking. Once activated the customer can make contactless payments with the Tap and Pay feature at the POS machine.

The payment information is transmitted in an encrypted format making the transaction completely secure.

RBI data

According to Reserve Bank of India data, the total number of debit cards in use at the end of February 2021 was 89.4 crore which is more than the entire population of Europe.
