The new plant of Bharat Biotech at Ankleshwar located in Gujarat’s Bharuch district released the first commercial batch of Covaxin. The batch was released by the Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Mandaviya said that to strengthen the country’s fight against coronavirus, vaccination is the most important weapon. He tweeted that the first commercial batch of Covaxin has been released from Bharat Biotech’s plant at Ankleshwar, Gujarat today. This will help in expanding the national vaccination drive and increase the supply of vaccines in the country.

Earlier this month, the government had approved Bharat Biotech’s Ankleshwar-based manufacturing plant to produce Covaxin. The manufacturer had announced in May that it would produce an additional 200 million doses of Covaxin at its subsidiary’s Ankleshwar-based facility. It had stated it would utilise the manufacturing plant of its wholly-owned unit, Chiron Behring, to add another 200 million doses of Covaxin.

As per the data released by the Union Health Ministry, India administered 63.09 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccination in a nationwide drive till Sunday morning.
