Contrary to expectations, campus recruitment across India has kicked off on a high note this year as the companies have resumed hiring as the Covid-19 second wave subsides. With companies rushing to acquire engineering talent, the offers for dream jobs have gone up substantially this placement season. The number of offers rolled out this year has seen a spike in a very brief period as compared to a normal year where it took months for companies to clock in such recruitment figures.

Additionally, companies are offering a mixture of jobs, including the super dream offers with high remunerations and additional benefits.

Along with the surge in job offers this season, the overall annual average packages have also gone up substantially and have doubled at a few campuses.

Campus hiring on a high note

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has seen a significant rise in campus hiring for the current outgoing batch. For instance, tech giant Microsoft which recruited 7-8 VIT students in 2020 has tripled its hiring and rolled out offers for super dream jobs to 21 students. Investment banking firm Societe Generale Group has recruited 75 students in the super dream job segment. The highest pay package this year was given by tech start-up Dyte, which offered two students with a CTC of Rs 75 lakh per annum each along with ESOPs.

Nagpur’s Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) which usually sees dream and super dream job offers of Rs 8-10 lakh and Rs 30 lakh per annum, respectively, has seen recruitment going up this year with data analytics, IT and consulting companies leading the way. Tech giant Oracle which hired 5-7 students from VNIT last year has rolled out 25 offers this year. According to Kishor Bhurchandi, Associate Dean, Training and Placements, VNIT, companies are taking preventive measures to tackle attrition that might take place in the near future when the job market opens up in a post-Covid-19 economy.

This year, the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela has also seen a double-digit hike in offers being rolled out in the dream and super dream job categories, according to a report in the Business Standard. Despite the damages caused by the pandemic, three students bagged offers of Rs 45 lakh per annum, which is the highest as of yet, while nine students got offers of Rs 43 lakh per annum. In addition to this, the institute saw 84 companies rolling out offers to the tune of over Rs 10 lakh per annum.
