Delhi Metro introduces cashless parking lot

New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced its first cashless parking facility at Kahmere Gate station.

DMRC has started FASTag facility for four-wheelers and Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based option at the Kahmere Gate metro station, one of the busiest in its network. This is expected to save the time spent by vehicle owners to pay parking charges.

This is exclusively a cashless parking facility, which can accommodate 55 four-wheelers and 174 two-wheelers. The facility was opened near Gate number 6 of Kashmere Gate metro station in the presence of DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh and other senior officials.

The two-wheeler owners now will have easy access to the lot. They merely need to swipe their DMRC smart card, which will be used for registering the entry and exit timings and calculating the fare. No money will be deducted from the card. “The parking fee can be paid by UPI apps through scanning a QR Code,” DMRC said in a statement.

The DMRC, however, is planning to enable the DMRC/NCMC cards to make the parking fee payments in the future.

Four-wheelers can access the parking lot and pay the fee through FASTag, an electronic toll collection system operated by the National Highways Authority of India. It, however, means only vehicles with a FASTag will be allowed to park there.

 “The parking fee will be deducted through FASTag, thus reducing the time for entry-exit and payment,” said the DMRC, which is planning to extend this pilot project to its other parking facilities across Delhi and the National Capital Region.

It is to be noted that the Kashmere Gate station is the only triple-interchange metro station.

In another first, the DMRC is building an underground integrated parking facility at the upcoming Dhansa Bus Stand metro station on Grey Line, allowing commuters to move to the concourse area directly after parking their vehicles.

“An entire underground floor has been dedicated for parking of vehicles at the Dhansa Bus Stand metro station on the Dwarka–Najafgarh–Dhansa Bus Stand corridor of the Delhi metro network. It will be the first underground station to have the facility,” the DMRC said.
