Firms in a rush to grab tech talent from NITs

Due to the accelerated pace of digital transformation across sectors fuelled by the Covid-19 pandemic, National Institute of Technologies (NITs) in Warangal, Jalandhar, Surathkal, Calicut, Rourkela and Nagpur have witnessed a significant increase in the number of recruiters and offers this year, The Economic Times reported on Wednesday. Many of these institutes have seen a 10-20% increase in average salary on year-over-year basis.

NITs have risen to industry’s demands

While Microsoft has been the top recruiter offering a salary of up to Rs 45 lakh per annum across most of the NIT campuses, NIT Calicut bare witness to the highest offer of Rs 67.6 lakh from startup traceable AI. According to the publication, the highest salary is expected to go up, as the placement season just kicked off.

It also added that more software and consulting companies as well as startups are lining up for recruitment this year.

According to Deloitte India, NITs have risen to the demands of the industry as there is a huge demand for top-deck tech talent.

At NIT Warangal, average salary has increased to Rs 20 lakh per annum from Rs 18 lakh per annum till October last year. The number of recruiters visiting the campus has increased by 20% this year, as compared to 190 last year.

As of September-end, NIT Nagpur has received 480 offers, with the offer of Rs 34.25 lakh per annum from DE Shaw India. Oracle, Deloitte, JP Morgan, John Deere, Reliance Jio Platforms, Wipro and Capgemini ranking among top recruiters, with an average salary of Rs 11.14 lakh per annum. Last year, placements were hit at the Nagpur campus, with the number of companies dwindling to 110.
