Maruti Suzuki sets up multi-speciality hospital; joins RIL, Vedanta in boosting healthcare

In its endeavour to lend a helping hand to authorities in this Covid-19 crisis, big companies are pitching in with initiatives to boost the healthcare sector. For instance, Maruti Suzuki has opened a multi-speciality hospital at Sitapur in Gujarat in partnership with Zydus Hospitals.

The hospital has a 50-bed capacity as of now and can be expanded up to 100 beds. Spread over 7.5 acres, it is expected to serve over 3.75 lakh people residing at Sitapur and adjoining villages. The infrastructure is already in place for the expansion of the facility.

“When our Gujarat car plant started, there was no major medical facility available in the region. We decided to build a good quality multispeciality hospital for the benefit of all residents of that area,” said Kenichi Ayukawa, MD, and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.

Other companies

Vedanta Ltd: On May 11, Vedanta set up a 100-bed field hospital for coronavirus patients.

The company has pledged Rs 150 crore to help the country in its fight against the rapidly spreading second wave of Covid-19. This is over and above Rs 201 crore that was spent by Vedanta Group last year.

RIL: Reliance Foundation (RF) will set up a 1,000-bed Covid-19 hospital with an oxygen facility at Jamnagar in Gujarat where the services would be provided free of cost.

“The first phase of 400 beds will be ready within a week, and the other 600 beds in another week,” Nita M Ambani, founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation had said on April 28.
