Will Google Pixel 8 price fall in India after Foxconn deal?
It is highly unlikely that Google Pixel smartphones will become cheaper in India after Foxconn and Dixon Technologies start manufacturing the premium smartphones.
Good news for all those who are excited about ‘Made In India’ Google Pixel smartphones. After iPhones, now very soon, Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer Foxconn will start production of ultra premium Google Pixel smartphones in India. The manufacturing company has signed a deal with US-based Google to manufacture Google Pixel smartphones in India. It is to be noted that the Taiwanese manufacturing giant already makes iPhones in India. Interestingly, Foxconn will manufacture Pixel smartphones in the same state where it manufactures Apple’s premium smartphones. Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Thursday, “As a result of the negotiations, Google will partner with Foxconn in Tamil Nadu to produce the Pixel cell phones and has offered to set up a factor.”
Other manufacturers also line up for ‘Made In India’ Google Pixel smartphones:
In September last year, India’s very own smartphone manufacturing company, Dixon Technologies, had signed a pact with Google to manufacture its Pixel smartphones locally in India. The home grown company will unveil its first Made in India Pixel smartphones in September 2024.
On conditions of anonymity, a source said to news agency PTI, “Dixon will also make Pixel smartphones under an arrangement with Compal Electronics which makes Google’s devices.”
Will Google Pixel prices come down in India?
It is highly unlikely that the prices of these ultra-premium smartphones from the house of internet major Google will reduce in India once these are locally produced. When, another US-based Apple had announced that it would manufacture iPhones in India, there was much hype about the anticipated price reduction of ‘Made in India’ iPhones. But, that didn’t happen and prices didn’t reduce. Infact it was found that ‘Made In India’ iPhones were actually costlier than those manufactured in other countries.
So, it is highly unlikely that Google Pixel smartphones will become cheaper in India after Foxconn and Dixon Technologies start manufacturing the premium smartphones.
