Grappling with the twin challenges of vaccination drive and rise in COVID-19 positive cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reportedly suggested door-do-door vaccination.

Although the Centre has shot down the proposal citing policy issues, AIIMS chief Randeep Guleria has backed the idea, saying the strategy can be explored to propel the vaccination drive amid rising cases.

Senior citizens, who are the most vulnerable, will gain immensely if the idea is green-lighted.

BMC’s request was also on the same grounds. It said there are nearly 1.5 lakh people in Mumbai who are old and differently-abled and will face difficulties in going out for vaccination.

Getting vaccinated at home will ensure peace of mind for people.

Although logistical challenges are plenty, it will at least ensure that citizens will get inoculated in a hassle-free manner.

With cases rising rapidly on a daily basis and citizens not adhering to social distancing norms with same sincerity as they were doing during lockdown, the time has come to chalk out a new strategy which will ensure citizens are given maximum protection from the Covid-19 threat.
