Google has rolled out a new feature called ‘battery saver mode’ for its video-communication platform – Google Meet. So until you’ve been making potential ‘low battery’ excuses to exit video calls all this while, this should come as good news for you.

Google Meet’s battery saver mode, once turned on, restricts phone’s data usage and conserves battery. It also reduces the power required by the device’s operating system to function optimally. This mode can be switched on from the app’s Setting menu.

During the lockdown, several companies shifted to ‘Work From Home’ (WFH)’ culture and depended on online video conferencing platforms like Google Meet to conduct meetings. Schools and colleges have also shifted to online mode of teaching during the pandemic.

The battery saver mode will make it easier for people to carry on their WFH routine without periodic hindrances.

Apart from this, several other features were added to the app in its latest version. This includes the ability to respond to polls, safety measures for online teaching and thee option to shut down an ongoing video conference from iOS device.

As many as 250 people can join Google Meet video conference at once. Real-time captions are also provided by Google for these calls.

No one can join the video call unless invited by the host. A link must be shared for anyone to join the video conference.
