LPG prices hiked by Rs 25.5 per cylinder from July 1

The price of LPG cylinders, the most commonly used kitchen fuel in the country, jumped again by Rs 25.5 per cylinder on July 1. With this latest round of price hike, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder reached Rs 834 in Delhi and Mumbai, Rs 850 in Chennai and Rs 861 in Kolkata.
The price of 19 kg commercial cylinder also went up by around Rs 75 per cylinder to reach Rs 1,629 in Kolkata.
Price movement
Since December last year the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has been increased six times and slashed only once. The reduction happened in June.
The price of an LPG cylinder was a little above Rs 600 in December. On December 2, the price went up from Rs 616 (Kolkata price) to Rs 670.50. Again on December 15 another round of price hike happened and it shot up to 720.50.
The next rise took place on February 4, 2021 when the level went up by Rs 25 to Rs 745.50. On February 15, the price was increased to 795.50 – a rise of Rs 50.
Just before the outbreak of the pandemic the price of a domestic cylinder again hiked by another Rs 50 and the price stood at Rs 845.50.
In June the price was slashed by Rs 10 per cylinder.
The hike in the LPG comes at a time when petrol and diesel rates have crossed Rs 100/litre is several states.
Subsidy bill
After the price hike from today onwards the amount of subsidy which would be directly credited to the bank account of a common man would go down to about Rs 10 per cylinder, feels industry experts.
India had a total of 28.5 crore LPG connections till March 2021. Of these 83 lakh connections were given under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana since its launch in May 1, 2016.
