I&B Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that the PMGKAY has been extended by four months till March 2022
The government provides free foodgrains to 80 crore beneficiaries under the PMGKAY scheme.
Through ration shops, free ration is provided over and above the subsidised grains distributed to them.
Under PMGKAY, free food grains are being distributed to around 80 crore beneficiaries covered under the national food security act
Five-kilo foodgrains per person/month are provided free of cost under the PMGKAY to 81.35 crore beneficiaries covered under National Food Security Act
Thanks to normal monsoon last year, the warehouses are overflowing and the Centre has elbow room to extend delivery of free foodgrain till end of FY22
Under this scheme it has been decided to allocate free-of-cost food grains at 5 Kg per person per month to nearly 80 crore beneficiaries covered under National Food Security Act
The government said there is no impact on prices of foodgrains in the open market due to free grains distribution under PMGKAY
