Adani’s wait for Dharavi gets longer

The wait for the Dharavi Redevelopment project in Mumbai is set to get longer as the Maharashtra government is yet to issue the work order that will allow the work to start. Eight months have passed since Adani Realty was declared the highest bidder, but so far there has been no progress in issuing the letter of authorisation for the work to start. State government officials say they are unaware of when the government would approve the project developer. In November 2022, the Adani group had emerged as the highest bidder for the redevelopment of Mumbai’s Dharavi, one of the largest slum clusters in the country, with an initial investment commitment of ₹5,069 crore, against a base price of ₹1,600 crore.

J&J gives up baby powder licence

Three years after ceasing production of its talc-based powders in the US and Canada, pharmaceutical giant Johnson and Johnson recently surrendered its licence to manufacture baby powder in its Mumbai plant. The company said the decision to stop manufacturing baby powder in India was part of a global move to switch from talc-based to cornstarch-based baby powders. Incidentally, J&J’s move comes within months of the company winning a court battle against the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to continue production of baby powder. J&J submitted an application on June 22 seeking to stop the production of the baby powder at its Mulund plant.
