Four Aadhaar updates that you can do online
To update name, date of birth, address and gender in Aadhaar you don’t have to visit any centre physically any longer
We are all aware of the importance of the 12-digit Aadhaar number and the Aadhaar card as an identity document. Even a minor mistake in the Aadhar card can create a lot of problems for the common man. For any correction in the records, one has to queue up in front of an Aadhaar service centre.
Eventually the Centre brought online services for updating of the name, date of birth, address and gender online through Self Service Update Portal.

Registered mobile number must
However, to get this facility one must have his or her mobile phone number linked with Aadhaar. You will receive OTP for Aadhaar authentication in your registered mobile.
If you have not registered your mobile number while enrolling for Aadhaar, you are required to visit a permanent enrolment centre to get it registered.
Other updates
For other updates like head of family or guardian details or biometric update you have to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Enrolment/Update Centre.
Required documents
If you want to change the name, date of birth or address in your Aadhaar card, you have to submit a scanned copy of each of the proof for verification. But there is no need for any document for gender updates.
Status update
On successful submission of an online address update request, you receive an Update Request Number (URN). This is shown on screen and also sent via SMS to your registered mobile number.

Service fee
The service is not free of cost. UIDAI will charge you Rs 50 for each update request.
Reminder
An Aadhaar card holder can change one’s name twice in lifetime while gender and date of birth can be changed once in lifetime.
