Govt to launch unified platform for all online services
At present, there are about 60 DPGs that have been developed at various levels in the country, which will be bought on the unified portal
The central government is developing a new portal with the aim of becoming a one-stop digital destination for all its online services and digital goods like Aadhar, UPI and more. Notably, it is estimated that the global market size of digital public goods (DPG) could cross $100 billion in the next 5-6 years.
What’s special about the portal?
Prominent govt digital public goods such as Aadhaar, UPI, and its e-commerce portal ONDC will be streamlined and offered on a unified portal. This will make it easy for users to avail all kinds of government services at one place, instead of downloading or visiting separate apps and portals for each scheme, as is the case at present.
At present, there are about 60 DPGs that have been developed at various levels in the country, which will be bought on the unified portal. Reports suggest that the portal will also house DPGs that are currently being developed, or have yet not been launched for public use.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is tasked with launching this portal, and has also started preparations for the same. All ministries and related departments have been told to prepare an outline of their digital public infrastructure (DPI) in collaboration with other agencies.
Moreover, it is also an exercise in cost-efficiency. According to EY estimates, the total per person cost for developing DPG in countries where population exceeds 50 million is as less as 74 cents.
These people will benefit greatly It is noteworthy that currently, users have to download and visit different apps and portals to avail various government schemes. In rural areas particularly, users have to go to computer centers to benefit from such digital facilities and even have to pay separate charges for each app and portal. After the launch of this new portal by the government, it is expected that such hassles and obstructions will be taken care of.
