Jet Airways to resume domestic services in Q1 of 2022

The winning bidder of Jet Airways, Jalan Kalrock Consortium announced that the grounded airline will resume its domestic operations in the first quarter of 2022. It will also be resuming short-haul international flights by the last quarter of 2022. New Delhi will be the new headquarter of the airline instead of Mumbai. It will start its first flight on the Delhi-Mumbai route, the consortium added. The full-service carrier had gone into an insolvency proceeding in 2019 and was grounded due to high debt. The Jalan Kalrock Consortium’s resolution plan for Jet Airways was approved by National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in June 2021.

“Jet Airways 2.0 aims at restarting domestic operations by Q1-2022, and short haul international operations by Q3/Q4 2022. Our plan is to have 50-plus aircraft in three years and 100 plus planes in five years, which also fits perfectly well with the short-term and long-term business plan of the Consortium,” Murari Lal Jalan, lead member, Jalan Kalrock Consortium, said.

He said that they have selected aircraft on the basis of competitive long-term leasing. He also mentioned that an airline reviving after being grounded for more than two years is something that has happened first time in the history of civil aviation and the organization is looking ahead at the prospect of being a part of such a historic journey. NCLT’s approved revival plan will be implemented for the airline. In the coming months, as per the plan, the creditors will be settled. The existing Air Operator Certificate (AOC) is already under process for revalidation.

The statement mentioned that the procedure for slot allocation, required airport infrastructure, and night parking has been initiated with the help of authorities and airport coordinators.

It added that, “Jalan Kalrock Consortium’s senior members and Jet 2.0 Operations Team led by the newly appointed Capt. Sudhir Gaur, accountable manager, and acting CEO visited key airports last month and held productive meetings with them.”
