Petrol, diesel prices rise for second straight day
Petrol is now above Rs 100 per litre mark in six states and union territories - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Ladakh
Petrol and diesel prices rose on June 7 by 27-28 paise per litre for the second straight day, according to oil marketing companies (OMCs).
In Delhi, a litre of petrol would cost Rs 95.31, while diesel Rs 86.22. In Mumbai, petrol price rose to Rs 101.52 per litre and diesel price stood at Rs 93.58 after today’s revision.
Today, in Kolkata, petrol would cost Rs 95.28 per litre and diesel Rs 89.07. In Chennai, the prices stood at Rs 90.92 and Rs 96.71 per litre respectively.
The hike – 21th since May 4 – took fuel prices across the country to a historic high. Petrol is now above Rs 100 per litre mark in six states and union territories – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Ladakh.
Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.
Retail prices have risen after an increase in international oil prices on investors’ optimism that improving demand and a dwindling supply glut may mean the market can absorb any additional production from OPEC and its allies.
Rajasthan levies the highest VAT on petrol and diesel in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
