PM Narendra Modi releases eighth installment of PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday released the eighth installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for the benefit of farmers through a video conference event. In this installment, over Rs 19,000 crore were transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.5 crore beneficiary farmer families.

The event began with an address by Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar. He said West Bengal has joined the scheme with more than 7 lakh farmers of the state getting the benefit today. A short presentation on the progress made by the scheme was also played during the event.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, the government is providing Rs 6,000 in three equal installments to 14 crore farmers annually. The amount is directly transferred into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through direct benefit transfer (DBT) mode.

The PM also interacted with the beneficiaries of the scheme after releasing the amount. He interacted with beneficiaries all across India, from Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Maharashtra.

While talking to one of the Adivasi women farmers from Anantpur Andhra Pradesh, PM Modi appreciated her brave efforts to turn a drought land into a fertile one. He also acknowledged her experience in farming and utilizing the help provided by government’s scheme.

Khurshid, a farmer from Srinagar, J&K who has completed his post-graduation also interacted with PM. Modi checked with him if the government is providing him enough help in terms of marketing of his products. He also applauded the fact that he has completed his graduate studies and is now contributing to the agriculture sector. PM said that it is inspiring to have educated farmers as they work in an organized and innovative way.

PM’s address to the farmers of the nation

PM congratulated all on the occasion of Basava Jayanti, Akshaya Tritya, Eid. He said that even in the tough times of covid-19 the farmers have continued to serve the country with their noble efforts. The farmers have contributed to India’s food surplus by producing a record-breaking supply of grains and crops. We also aim to help small and medium-scale farmers, by providing them financial benefits, Kisan cards, bank loans, etc. He said that the KISAN Credit Card scheme has been extended to support farmers to avail loans easily.

He also advised farmers and rural India to be aware and cautious of the second wave of covid-19 and follow safety precautions. The government administration will provide full support to help the rural India.
