British nationals coming to India from the UK will have to undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine from Monday, irrespective of their vaccination status as part of India’s reciprocal action against the UK’s new international travel rules akin to the similar measures for Indians. This comes on the back of UK not recognising Indian vaccine certificates. The issue could not be resolved despite a series of technical-level talks. There was no immediate reaction from the UK regarding India’s move.
India came with strong reaction on British rules and had warned UK on reciprocal measures on September 19, unless the UK addresses these norms while describing these norms against Indians as discriminatory.
Negative RT PCR tests
The country’s new norms said that British nationals from UK, irrespective of their vaccination status, will have to produce the result of the RT-PCR tests done 72 hours before travel. Upon arrival they will have to undergo another RT-PCR test here and another one on eighth day after arrival.
In addition to the tests, all travellers will have to undergo mandatory quarantine at home or in the destination address for 10 days after arrival in India. Also, it was reported that health and civil aviation ministries would be taking steps to implement the new measures.
At present, India’s current travel rules mandate passengers from UK to have negative RT-PCR tests results before they board the flights.
